Welcome!

A little info, plus a disclaimer

Important notice (Oct 21, 2006): I am no longer accepting entries to my guestbook. It is here to view only. I was receiving something around 50 spams to it a day, and it was rare to receive a legitimate comment, which it was difficult to get posted here because of all the spam. I have now cleared out the backlog of spam I had in the system, but for the time being I'm not putting the form back up. If you really want to get in touch with me to say you like the place, feel free to post in a comment to one of my blog entries, or shoot me an email.

This is version 3 of my happy and humble guestbook. (Version 1: simple CGI and plain text file to save entries. Version 2: PHP with a MySQL table to save entries. Now: PHP driven by MovableType and its commenting system, and integrated into the main theme of my site.)

Here you may feel free to express your opinions about me, my site, my kitties, or just whatever you're thinking about at the time.

The disclaimer (updated Sept 5, 2005): This is a moderated guestbook. If you already have a TypeKey account your comment will go through right as rain, though I reserve the right to remove any entries I want. All other comments are moderated and must be approved by me. So if you try to post an advertisement of any kind, or link to any porn, the likelihood of approval slim to none. If I think it's spam, it's gone. Guestbooks are for saying "Hi", not spamming links.

Hi, I love your site. I just wanted to make you aware of the plight of the Iberian Lynx of Portugal&Spain. There are only an estimated 135 left in the wild, &, of those, only an estimated 22 breeding females left. They are in pre-extinction stage. It is estimated that they may be extinct within 18 months, by October 2005. If they do go extinct, they will be the first wild cat to do so since the Sabre-Toothed Tiger 12,000 years ago. Inbreeding has already started in these Lynx: 1. with lowered immunity&resistance to disease. Recently an unknown virus killed some of them, when each lynx is precious at this particular time. 2. A dark coat in an Iberian Lynx comes from a recessive gene, and recently more&more dark coats in more&more of these lynx have been occurring. 3. Abnormal sperm has already been noted. Many things have worked against these poor things: development, dam-building, road-building, plague, starvation, poaching, forest fires, governments that care only about the Eurodollar&not the Lynx, especially the Portugese government that wants all these tourists' golf courses and condominium complexes. There is a web site, www.soslynx.org, that tells you many more ideas on how you can help the Iberian Lynx&learn more about it. If you drink wine, please only buy bottles that have cork because that is incentive for the governments&companies to preserve the cork forests, which is one of the types of habitats of the Iberian Lynx. Anyway, I hope that you can find it in your heart to help the Iberian Lynx. God bless you&have a nice day. Faith Shives
